Hold up, it’s not what you think.
I want to share with you about how something as seemingly simple as networking, but more particularly, sending and responding to direct messages (DMs), has had a profound impact on my mission to work and live across 10 African Countries and how it has enriched my network beyond my wildest imagination.
Come to think of it, this entire collaboration with Jibu was birthed through a DM but that’s a story for another day.
When I set out to travel across Africa, the saying “Make sure you know someone somewhere, who knows someone somewhere. Somehow, you will need someone to get somewhere,” couldn’t have been more accurate. I knew that in order to have a truly fulfilling and rewarding experience, I needed to connect with a diverse range of people, communities, and groups.
In the past, I used to shy away from networking. Being what you might refer to as a “loud introvert,” if such a thing even exists, networking has always felt uncomfortable and overly promotional for me. So it took a lot of courage to send my first DM, but I’m glad I did. Through one simple act, I continue to connect with a number of interesting people that I probably never would have talked to in a million years.
In this interconnected world, where virtual bridges span the globe, DMs have become the magic portals that lead to remarkable connections and opportunities. With just a few taps of the keyboard, I have opened doors to exciting collaborations, unexpected friendships, and life-changing encounters.
So, what are you waiting for? Don’t let amazing opportunities slip through your fingertips. Hit that send and reply button. Connect with fascinating people, embark on wild adventures, and let your social media be a treasure trove of unforgettable experiences!
Remember, in this interconnected world, the next life-changing connection could be just one DM away!
Happy exploring. 🌍✈️😎✈️
