Last week, I found myself battling a relentless cold that my 5-year-old niece unknowingly shared with me. It was one of those colds that left me begging for mercy. I was sad, in pain, struggling to get through each day and inhaling cups of herbal and dawa tea. Meanwhile, my niece, sister, and brother-in-law all carried on with their respective routines, seemingly unaffected by the discomfort.
As I sat there, huddled up and longing for relief, I started to ponder on the importance of self-care and how well my family members have been taking care of themselves.
It prompted me to ask myself some honest questions:
Shirley, how well have you been prioritizing your own well-being?
Earlier this year, I set out on a quest to create #ABetterLife, but I have realized that my health and well-being have gradually taken a backseat as I jumped from one adventure to the next. While the excitement of exploring new destinations and embracing thrilling experiences is invigorating, I now understand the importance of finding balance and prioritizing self-care. It’s not just about the external adventures; it’s about fostering a holistic sense of well-being that encompasses physical, mental, and emotional health.
Shirley, are you really drinking your water and minding your business?
Let’s face it, I’ve been a bit too involved in other people’s lives lately. With our hectic schedules, it’s easy to get caught up in the chaos and neglect our own well-being. But no more. I have committed to developing a more intentional hydration routine. Thankfully, I have Twiggy, my trusted reusable water bottle.
I am also planning to set reminders for office water breaks and experiment with infused water for added flavor. After all, hydration is the elixir of life.
Shirley, have you been prioritizing exercise or merely vibing?
I must admit, I’ve been rather lackadaisical about my exercise routine. It’s time to step up my game. Whether it’s yoga in the morning, hiking in scenic locations, or simply incorporating regular stretching, I’m determined to make exercise a consistent part of my lifestyle.
Shirley, have you been seeking out fresh and nutritious food options?
Well, let’s just say I haven’t exactly been eating my greens. It’s time to come clean and start making healthier choices. No more deceiving myself, and I know my mother, for one, will be proud to note that I am deleting all the food delivery apps off my phone. (Ok, maybe not all but most of them).
Remember, your well-being is just as important as the destinations you explore. So, let’s embark on our next adventures with a self-care mindset and allow the world to become our sanctuary of personal growth, relaxation, and exploration.
Take care of yourself.
